This program of the Rotary Club of Makati North was the
beneficiary of the Charity Event of the APT Philippines 2012 held last April. RCMN also holds fun poker tournaments to raise funds for its projects.
It was proven that this feeding program improves the grades of the children as most of them go to school without food on their stomachs. This program aims to see the drop-out rate at the target schools/grades decline by 50%. Other goals of the project are:
- See the absentee rate drop by 50% in the targeted school
- See the incidence of protein energy malnutrition (PEM) among school children in the program decline by 80%
- See the incidence of iron deficiency as indicated by median urinary iodine excretion (UIE) in the students in targeted school/classes
- See F. Benitez Elementary School Main receiving assistance under this program graduate with self-sustaining program within five years
- See increased parent/community involvement in providing nutrition to their children
The students are assessed, and those who most need the food are invited to join the feeding program. This goes on for one whole year. Php20,000 could feed the kids for a whole month. Not only the children benefit from this project, the families of these students also get something good out of it. The mothers are taught how to prepare economical and healthy food for their families. There was one parent volunteer at the re-launch who was still helping with the proojct even if her child has already graduated and left the elementary school
In almost all events of the APT, a Charity Event is part of its side events line up. Every Charity Event has a beneficiary, depending on where the event is held. This coming APT Asian Series Manila, a Charity Event will take place again to benefit this meaningful project. The Charity Event will be held on the opening day of APT Asian Series Manila on Sept. 19 at 7PM, Resorts World Manila Level 2. All add-ons will proceed to this project. Some of the event partners also pledged to add to the amount that will go to he feeding program.

One way of raising funds to feed children is through hosting events or sports activities. This may help seek enough funds to feed long term. Donations are very much accepted. Volunteering would be a great help to assist children in their needs.
